Applications Open for 2021 Future Leaders Canada Program, Virtual Agenda Set

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jan. 4, 2021

OTTAWA, ON: The Fisheries Council of Canada (FCC), in partnership with the National Fisheries Institute in the United States, has opened applications for their 2021 Future Leaders Canada program. The fish and seafood career development program will adapt to continuing COVID-19 guidance by offering a fully virtual agenda in 2021.

Future Leaders Canada accepts participants working in the fish and seafood industry who are interested in gaining the skills and insider knowledge needed to become successful champions for the sector. After the 2020 program had to be postponed due to the pandemic, the 2021 agenda has been developed with a robust schedule of virtual-only opportunities.

“Offering a digital program for the 2021 Future Leaders Canada class allows us to ramp up the agenda and offer more sessions, more frequently,” said Paul Lansbergen, President, FCC. “And without the costs of travel, the need for accommodations, and a less demanding dedication of time, the program has never been more accessible.”

The 2021 Future Leaders Canada program will run from April through August, with a webinar once every two weeks. Participants will also receive access to additional on-line learning and networking opportunities throughout the year.  A virtual graduation celebration will take place in December. Participants can expect to learn in-depth about port and export logistics, sustainability in seafood, and the retail side of the industry, while also exploring vessels and production facilities through virtual tours, among other sessions.

“The goal of the Future Leaders Canada program is to equip our fish and seafood professionals with a well-rounded understanding of the sector, to strengthen the future of the entire industry,” Lansbergen said.

Applications, as well as a draft program agenda, are now available online. Interested participants should register before Jan. 27, 2021.

Applicants from the 2020 program who do not opt-out will have spots automatically reserved in the 2021 program.
