FCC Announces Future Leaders Canada Class of 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 16, 2020

OTTAWA, ON: With the growing population, sustainability and food supply at the forefront of global conversation, Canada’s fish and seafood sector has unprecedented opportunities and challenges ahead. The Fisheries Council of Canada (FCC) wants to make sure our future leaders are as equipped as possible to guide our industry to success.

FCC is pleased to announce the 2020 class of its Future Leaders Canada program. The sector specific career development program is offered in partnership with the National Fisheries Institute (NFI). The 2020 class comprises 10 participants from Canada’s three coasts and an impressive mix of skill-sets and responsibilities in their companies.

“FCC is excited to embark on this year’s Future Leaders Canada program with such a strong group of emerging trail-blazers,” said Paul Lansbergen, President, FCC. “We take pride in providing these opportunities for the industry to strengthen the knowledge base and connections of the individuals who will lead us to greater heights in the near future.”

Building upon the success of last year’s inaugural program, the 2020 Future Leaders Canada agenda provides a full spectrum of learning opportunities to develop the industry’s up and coming professionals. The class will participate in three three-day sessions, culminating with a graduation at FCC’s annual conference in October. The sessions are designed to enhance participants’ knowledge and understanding of upstream and downstream operations within the industry, including government relations, production, sales, marketing and industry environment.

The 2020 Future Leaders Canada program includes the following sessions:

  • Ottawa, May 10-13
  • Chicago, July 7-9
  • Vancouver, August 10-13

FCC is pleased to welcome the 10 participants of the 2020 class to the program:

  • Vanessa Scott, Cities for Oceans
  • Steve Ellis, Clearwater
  • Marc Keats, Clearwater
  • Jeff Turner, Clearwater
  • Kate Docking, FCC
  • Kelly McCarthy, FCC
  • Jenice Yu, Grand Hale Marine Products Co.
  • Samantha Tomkinson, Mowi Canada West
  • Shane Sullivan, Ocean Choice International
  • Jesslene Jawanda, Qikiqtaaluk Corporation

More information on the Future Leaders Canada program and how to participate in subsequent years can be found on the FCC website.

NB:        FCC is monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely and will provide updates if the Future Leaders Canada program, particularly the Ottawa session, requires rescheduling.
